"early today" starts right now. good morning. glad you're with me. i'm frances rivera. residents across parts of the south are picking uh thep the p after an onslaught of storms reduced some homes to rubble.

at least three people have died since wednesday with more than 360 storms reported. it was also the fifth day this year to have more than 100 reports of tornados. in hard-hit tennessee, golf ball sized hail hammered down in clarksville. and severe weather continued as parts of texas dealt with its own hailstorm. multiple counties are facing dangerous flooding. in rutherford county, a 10-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was swept into a storm drain. tens of thousands are still in the dark as crews work around the clock to restore toppled power lines. angie lassman will join us for a look at where these storms are headed next. turning now to the tensions in the middle east. president biden announcing that he will not be supplying israel with offensive weapons for an invasion of rafah in gaza. israeli prime minister netanyahu put out a defiant video statement, saying that israel will defeat hamas militarily, with or without the u.s.

and national security minister tweeted, hamas hearts biden. he later deleted it after an outcry. let's go live to chapman bell. what more are the israelis saying? >> reporter: good morning, frances. yeah, that fallout does continue, following president biden's interview. the president pausing the shipment of bombs already to israel. israel's ambassador to the united nations calling the pause a very disappointing decision, even frustrating. others in israel vowing to continue. the foreign affairs minister posting israel will continue to fight hamas until its destruction. now president biden also catching backlash at home. republican senators accusing the president of favoring a hamas victory over israel. and arkansas senator tom cotton having this to say. take a listen. >> hamas' leaders and its last four battalions are holed up in

rafah. so israel has to defeat hamas in rafah to win. hamas wins if it survives in rafah. and joe biden has threatened to withhold weapons from israel for fighting in rafah. therefore, joe biden objectively favors a hamas victory over israel. >> reporter: now the biden administration has long called a full military assault on rafah a red line, worried about civilian casualties and how israel would undertake such a military operation. but this war of words just continuing as the white house and other regional leaders are all still pushing for a cease-fire, at least temporarily, and a way to free the hostages in exchange for palestinian prisoners in israel. so this, once again, just continuing to become a bigger issue for back home and in israel. frances? >> chapman bell for us, thank

you. now to the criminal hush money trial of donald trump. the prosecution will continue to call witnesses today, after the tense cross examination of stormy daniels came to an end. the judge rejected mr. trump's request to respond to her allegations publicly. nbc's laura jarret has more. >> reporter: stormy daniels leaving court after a blistering cross examination. former president trump's defense team suggesting she's been trying to cash in on her story of sex with mr. trump at a celebrity golf tournament 18 years ago which he denies ever happened. the defense accusing daniels of lying. trump's attorney hammering daniels' years of acting and directing in the porn industry, saying it gave letter h her a l history in stories. their exchanges growing heated. you've acted and had sex in over

200 porn movies. but according to you, seeing a man sitting in bed in a tee shirt and boxer shorts was so upsetting that you almost fainted? daniels defiant, noting mr. trump was twice her age and bigger. the attorney saying you made this all up, right? daniels responding no. the attorney pressing, your story has completely changed, hasn't it? daniels saying no, saying this signed statement where she denied an affair with mr. trump was done while she was trying to comply with the terms of a non-disclosure agreement where she was paid to keep silent. after making more than a million off her story and books, a strip club tour and various other merchandise on her website. the attorney accusing her of trying to make money to sell a story that you promise will put president trump in jail, right? daniels responding, no.

much of the testimony far removed from what the presumptive gop nominee has been charged with, for allegedly falsifying his business records to hide a $130,000 payment to daniels ahead of the 2016 election. prosecutors say the payment was meant to keep her quiet so she couldn't derail his campaign. the defense says there was no crime. it was all a shakedown. daniels testifying, i was asking to sell my story to publications to get the truth out. the attorney saying she could have just done that with a press conference for free. daniels responding, i could have. the attorney asserting you chose to make money, right? daniels saying, i chose to take the non-disclosure agreement. the jury again hearing a phone call between michael coe hen an daniels lawyer, saying she wanted the money more than you can ever imagine. on redirect by the state, daniels told the jury money

didn't drive her motivation for signing that nda, quote, we're all happy to take money. it was just a bonus. later, trump's aide testified about mr. trump's reaction when the story about the hush money deal first broke, saying i remember he was very upset. the judge denying the defense's renewed request for a mistrial. mr. trump's attorneys had argued daniels' salacious testimony was prejudicial and irrelevant. the judge also refusing to change the gag order which currently bars mr. trump from commenting on daniels' testimony. >> everybody saw what happened today. i don't think we have to do any explaining. i'm not allowed to anyway. i got to get back on the campaign trail. i'm not supposed to be here. we are so innocent, there's never been anything like this. >> our thanks to laura for that report. new details are coming to light about the controversy shaking uh shaking up the buteauty pageant world. fans were shaken when ms. teen

usa gave up her crown . she accuses the organization for failing to take a report of sexual harassment seriously. voight wrote she was experiencing heart palpitations, loss of appetite and more. the ms. usa organization did not respond to our request for comment about the letter. but, in a statement wednesday, ceo rose said the well-being of all individuals associated with the pageant is her priority. recovery efforts will pick back up this morning after a massive avalanche killed two skiers in utah. it happened in the mountains near salt lake city. the lone survivor says they were hiking when they were caught in an avalanche several feet deep and hundreds of feet wide. authorities had to call off recovery efforts yesterday because of bad weather. so the question, will we get a

break from the storms this weekend? nbc meteorologist angie lassman is tracking the system for us. good morning, angie. >> good morning, frances. the hard-hit areas are going to get a bit of a break, but we're waking up to thunderstorms. we have severe thunderstorm watches in effect, a couple thunderstorm warnings in effect. as they work their way a little farther to the east. as the day goes on, specifically afternoon into the evening hours, these are the spots we're watching for strong storms. the good news is our tornado risk is low today. but we could see strong winds across the southeast today, this is something we'll watch through the afternoon hours. we'll see rain across the northeast. a secondary cold front works through the great lakes, and then our attention turns to parts of the south. specifically, texas, as we gear up for more areas of heavy rain. plenty of gulf moisture to tap into as this storm emerges from the rockies. notice all the rain we're watching for. this is going to leave us with the flooding concern for sure,

endometrial. all of these women have had one of these cancers. >> it's very painful. >> reporter: of all of you here, who has had a hysterectomy? now they're all taking legal action, growing other women around the country. several companies being sued say the allegations have n legal or sign s si scie scientific merit. a study was released and shortly after the fda looked into formaldehyde. they proposed a ban by april 30th of this year, but that deadline was missed. the u.s. is markedly behind others. canada, china and the european union have issued bans or restrictions on the use of formaldehyde in products. the fda told nbc news it's still working on a ban but the

>> reporter: at snnorth kansas city high school students are rehearsing for a unique performance. not only because they're playing for a very special 5-year-old, but because quincey fitzgerald and her big sister josie wrote the story this music is based on. have you heard about the concert that's happening? >> yeah. >> reporter: what are they going to do? >> play music for me. >> reporter: that's pretty special. quincey's song, the culmination of the spring concert, started with an organization called "sing me in story" finding kids in need of a boost and arranges for composers to write a special song. she was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. >> she was so young when she was diagnosed. and it was the worst time of our lives, and all i wanted was for her to be on the other side of this. >> reporter: sing me a story asked quincey and josie to write
